A engine or motor is a device designed for a purpose to convert heat produce from combustion of fuel into a useful mechanical work.


ENGINE


The word engine drives from latin word ingenium-the root of word ingenious. In old days device used in war as catapults, trebuchets and battering rams , called as siege engines, and knowledge of how to construct them was treated as a military secret.


Types of engine 


  1.  External combustion engine

 A external combustion engine where combustion of fuel occur outside from main word and generated heat supplying to working fluid(gas) that converted into a useful work.  example- steam engine.

                                                                       

External combustion engine

  •    Watt steam engine was the first type of steam engine based on external combustion engine at a  pressure just above atmospheric to drive piston by partial vacuum
  •     steam engine great develop in 1763-1775 with Newcomen steam engine




  1.   Internal combustion engine

 An internal combustion engine is also known as heat engine where combustion of fuel inside the cylinder which drive piston and through cranshaft power transmitted to rear wheel. example- diesel engine, petrol engine, four and two stroke engine etc.

  •   First internal combustion engine discovered by Etienne Lenoir (1860)
  •    First modern internal combustion engine was created by Nicolaus Otto ( Otto engine) in 1876

  1.     Automobiles like bike, car, trucks, bus, and heavy two wheeler
  2.      Gas turbines
  3.      Jet engine
  4.       Aeroplane
